Idea

People consume far more than they produce. Curato has arrived to change that. Curato is a platform that enables you to transform your consumption into creation. We give those who have audience or wish to build one a platform to find content on the web, add their opinion, and share it with their community so that they can discover what their favourite creators are up to. Curated material includes video, blogs, live streams, webinars, people, articles, Twitter threads, LinkedIn threads, websites, tools, and so on.
"If you want to be successful in business (in life, actually), you have to create more than you consume. Your goal should be to create value for everyone you interact with."

Problem

People consumes so much of content per day. According to a Forbes Article, Average daily time spent consuming content is now six hours and 59 minutes, which includes phone, TV, and other forms of digital media. That's a lot 🤯, isn't it? But the key issue here is not how much time individuals spend, but what is the ratio of good material to time is. I don't need to quote any statistics since you already know that.

People frequently consume material that is irrelevant to what they are seeking for, and those who uncover valuable information often do not know how to preserve it or share it with others. You could think that bookmarking is a good way to save data, but is it really? They do not allow for easy classification of data, nor do they allow for easy sharing with others, nor do they preserve that data in a social fashion where anybody may inspect it and understand about it. Last but not least, are they allowing you to monetize the curation that you did in your valuable time? No?

Enough discussing the problem; let's go into the goal and objective.

Goals and objectives

  • To make a platform for curators to curate, add their perspectives, and share on social media.
  • To provide a platform for users to access the curations of their favourite curators. For example, you can see what celebrities, such as Elon Musk, are reading and viewing on a regular basis.
  • Content can be curated of all kinds. The following are examples of curated content: Videos, Blogs, Live Streams, Movies, Game Clips, Webinars, People, Articles, Twitter threads , LinkedIn Posts, Websites or Tools. Consider a collection of top NFTs or books with the insights from your favourite creator; wouldn't it be so awesome?😅

Non-Goals

  • We do not want to make another social media , rather we want this to be a tool to curate content and leverage other social media to get the users.

Stakeholders and Target Users

Normal everyday user
A typical user who enjoys discovering new material on a regular basis but is unable to share it with others. With this app the user can now collect their thoughts and write something about the website and share it on social media to make it accessible to everybody as well as make some money for his pocket.
Communities or Businesses
Communities and businesses can now collect some of the best content on the web to share with their members owing to their network. They may commercialise the material, which can be a tremendous source of money for them.

Authentication Flow

We're using password-less authentication with the option to set a password for the authentication flow. After looking into other platforms with seamless authentication (Notion, Luma, Webflow, and so on), I discovered a number of flows that don't allow you to set a password and instead require you to sign in using an email code or a magic link.
However, I chose a combination in which the password is optional and the user can sign in simply by entering their email code.
There are a few benefits to doing so:
  • Passwordless Authentication Improves User Experience
  • You Don’t Need to Worry About Password Theft
  • Passwordless Authentication Solutions Protect Against Brute-Force Attacks

Login Flow

Login flow is same as Signup flow without the complete your profile page. For those who have set a password can see both the option to login via password or through email code.
After putting the email Id the user will be redirected to this page where they can put the password or can generate a one time code to login.

Curator Dashboard

The dashboard has a simple design to avoid overwhelming the user with too much information.
The curator can simply paste the link into the box and be redirected to the link page, where they can write their thoughts and publish them. The user has the ability to create multiple collections (One for design content other for gaming or shopping or songs).
AI tools can also be added in the future to rephrase text or convert content into twitter threads.
Dashboard for the user. The user can create collections and change settings on the left. There are also mini stats to check the number of views and followers, as well as a list of curators the user is following.

The user can add tags, category, and collection after retrieving all of the data from the link (Which in future can be done through AI suggestion). A rich text editor to add comments to the link and save it as draft if using it for personal setup or publish it to share it with the world.

Frontend

Here all the curated content will showcased. User can switch between different curators. The content will be divided according to the type i.e., Video, Article, Podcast etc. After clicking the user can access the curator insights.

Product strength

- Can generate webpages and email newsletter of bookmarks/links - Plugin to add websites in a collection - Multiple layout for webpages and newsletter
- Easy sharing - Fetched all the data from the links
Product weakness
- There is no way to monetize saved content - There is no way to categorize material of same type - There is no way to add own insights to the bookmarked links
- Not so great user experience with old design patterns - Same card design for all the links - Cant add rich text as a description to the links
- Bad User experience - Cant add insights to the links - No plugin
Customer reviews
- There was a time I was tempted to build a social bookmark platform. Luckily I was refered to http://raindrop.io (thk@amypeniston) and I love it! Learning: Try other solutions out there and understand the flow. They spend more time thinking about the same problem -
- We use elink as our platform to host news stories from other sources. It's great, you plop the link in, make some edits if you like, and via code injection the news shows up on our page. It's made the process much easier than before where we were just posting links onto our website. " CEO & Editor in Chief, Media Production - It integrates seamlessly with Mailchimp to enable me to send out a regular newsletter which looks much more expensive than it is. Cost wise it offers by far the best bang per buck that I could find. Consultant & Researcher
- Dropmark makes it really easy to gather all the loose ends early on in the process. Words, phrases, and concepts are summarized alongside text notes and images, videos, and web links—all in the same folder. Mathias Haddal Hovet Co-founder, Heydays
How to win
- Monetizing the curation - Allow to add own insights to the bookmarked links - Make it super handy to use it on different devices - Segmentation for different categories

MVP Spec

Overview

Curato's MVP will only be the frontend version of the product, allowing the curator to display all curated content. It will be done using the webflow and airtable stack, where the curator can curate content and update it via Webflow to show it to their user base. It can also be done through notion and super.so stack where notion can be used as a database and super.so for the frontend.

Many people with a large following from various domains can be paid to curate content and share it with their followers to get a rough estimate of how many people would be interested in something like this. This would provide a good indication of the number of people who are truly interested in such a platform.
A smoke test on the landing page would reveal how many curators are willing to curate content on the platform.

As a result, a no-code curation platform combined with a landing page smoke test would validate our problem statement for both Curator and Consumer customers.

Scope

  • Minimal database structure to store curated content
  • A frontend view to show those curated content
  • A email subscription model for both consumer and curator

Out of Scope

  • No authentication model for the MVP as we dont want user data before validating our product. Only email address would be sufficient
  • No backend for the MVP stage
  • No revenue model for the platform and for the curator at the MVP stage. We want it to be accessible to everyone at free of cost.

Success Metrics

  • Number of signups
  • Feedback/Validation from social media

Go to Market

In the beta stage, the product would be invitation basis in which the onboarded user can invite other member from their network. Every 3 invitation will grant another 3 invitation.
Inviting 20 user would grant 1 month free subscription when the product will go live for every user.
Top 50 curator according to page views would be granted some fund to advertise their page every month over different social media. This will push them to curate more material.
